What is thread break in embroidery?

The top thread snapping or shredding mid-design, which stops the machine; it usually points to the needle, the threading, the tension or the thread.

Thread break, explained

Change the needle first, since a worn, bent or wrong-size needle is a frequent cause, then rethread from the spool with the presser foot up and check that the spool feeds freely. Breaks that keep happening in the same spot often mean that area is too dense or has very short stitches. Many machines stop on a break and let you step back a few stitches before carrying on; the thread breaking guide goes through the causes in order.
