Choosing the right hoop
- Use the smallest hoop that fits: the fabric stays tighter and the design registers better.
- Keep a few millimeters clear of the frame on every side.
- Rotate tall designs 90° when that lets them fit a smaller hoop.
- Sizes are nominal. Check your machine's manual for its exact sewing field.
Questions
The quickest way to see what it does with your artwork is to try it. It's free and takes about a minute.
What does a 5×7 hoop mean?
It describes the largest design the hoop can sew: about 5 × 7 inches (130 × 180 mm). The physical hoop is larger, and exact fields vary slightly by brand.
Should a design fill the whole hoop?
No. Leave a few millimeters clear on every side so the presser foot never touches the frame. The calculator keeps 3 mm clear.
What if my design is too big for my hoop?
Scale it down when you digitize it, rather than resizing a finished stitch file, so the density stays right. The calculator shows the percentage needed.
Can I rotate a design to fit?
Yes. A tall design often fits a 5×7 or 6×10 hoop sideways. The calculator checks both orientations, and the digitizer can rotate the design for you.
