Barudan commercial machines use Barudan's own U01 stitch format. The free digitizer can write U01 directly from a logo or image, alongside DST and the home-machine formats.
Upload your artwork in the digitizer, pick U01 under the "More" formats (or download the ZIP with every format), and copy the file to your machine. Everything runs in your browser, with no signup and no upload.
What a U01 file is
U01 belongs to Barudan's family of numbered formats: software exports them as .U01, .U02 and so on, and Barudan's FDR-3 variant (.U03) supports newer machine function codes. Pure chenille machines use a separate Barudan format, DSB.
A U01 file holds stitches, jumps, trims and needle changes, but no thread colors. Barudan uses binary coding, which allows single stitches of up to 12.7 mm, compared with 12.1 mm for Tajima's DST.
Many shops also run DST files on Barudan machines, since DST is the common exchange format. Check your machine's list of supported formats before relying on it; U01 is the native choice.
Getting designs onto a Barudan
Newer Barudan machines read designs from USB memory. Older machines were built for floppy disks or serial connections, and third-party USB readers are sold to retrofit them. Networked shops can also save designs into a watch folder of Barudan's LEM server system, which passes them to the machines. Follow your machine's manual for the exact steps.
Sizing designs for Barudan machines
Barudan builds single-head and multi-head machines, and the sewing field depends on the model and frame. Check the spec sheet for yours. Common production sizes:
| Placement | Typical size |
|---|---|
| Left chest | 75–100 mm (3–4 in) wide |
| Cap front | Up to about 57 mm (2.25 in) tall |
| Sleeve | 65–90 mm (2.5–3.5 in) wide |
| Jacket back | 250–300 mm (10–12 in) wide |
The digitizer accepts sizes up to about 40 cm. Check fit against a frame with the hoop size calculator.
Tips for Barudan production
- Check the needle setup before you start. The U01 file includes needle changes in sewing order. Compare them with the TXT color sheet and adjust the assignment at the machine if your threads sit on other needles.
- Estimate the job. The stitch count calculator gives stitches and run time for pricing.
- Caps need care. Caps sew best from the center out, and the digitizer doesn't do cap-specific sequencing. Test on a spare cap.
- Pick the fabric preset for the garment, so density and underlay suit it.
- Sew a test before running a batch.
Converting other formats for a Barudan
Customer sent a PES, JEF or VP3? Open it in the embroidery file converter, choose U01 under "More" and download: every stitch carries over and each color becomes a needle change. If your Barudan reads DST, you can convert to DST instead: PES to DST, JEF to DST or VP3 to DST.
When you have the original artwork, digitizing it fresh in the digitizer and choosing U01 gives the cleanest result at exactly the size you need. For shops that mix brands, image to DST gives you a DST from the same artwork.
