Machines and thread
Rayon thread, explained
Rayon was long the traditional embroidery thread and is still loved for its softness and shine on items that are washed gently, such as heirloom pieces, quilts and decorative work. It is weaker than polyester and can fade or lose strength with bleach, hard laundering and strong sunlight. Most rayon is sold as 40 wt, so a file digitized for 40 wt polyester usually sews the same; the thread guide compares the two.
