What is tatami fill in embroidery?

The standard fill stitch: rows of running stitches with the needle points offset from row to row, so no lines form across the area.

Tatami fill, explained

Tatami gives a flat, slightly textured surface that covers areas of any size. Row spacing sets the density, and the row angle changes how it catches the light. Embrizo sews tatami rows 0.4 mm apart by default with stitches about 3.5 mm long, and at its standard underlay level lays a lighter fill at another angle beneath them.
