What is hoop in embroidery?

A two-part frame, closed with a screw or with magnets, that holds fabric and stabilizer taut while the machine stitches.

Stabilizers and hooping

Hoop, explained

Hoops are usually named by their sewing field in inches, so a 4×4 hoop sews about 100 × 100 mm; common sizes are 4×4, 5×7, 6×10, 8×8 and 8×12 in, though brands round differently. Magnetic hoops clamp thick items such as towels and bags quickly and leave fewer hoop marks. Embrizo's hoop presets use those five fields, and the hoop sizes guide lists brand sizes and margins.
