What is cut-away stabilizer in embroidery?

A stabilizer that stays in the garment for good: after stitching, the excess is trimmed away around the design.

Stabilizers and hooping

Cut-away stabilizer, explained

Because it keeps supporting the stitches through washing and wear, cut-away is the standard backing for T-shirts, polos, sweatshirts, hoodies and anything else that stretches. No-show mesh is a thin cut-away that is less visible through light-colored knits. Trim it with a small margin rather than close to the stitches; the stabilizer finder helps you choose a backing for your fabric.
